Discovering Recurrent Image Semantics from Class Discrimination

چکیده
Supervised statistical learning has become a critical means to design and learn visual concepts (e.g., faces, foliage, buildings, etc.) in content-based indexing systems. The drawback of this approach is the need of manual labeling of regions. While several automatic image annotationmethods proposed recently are very promising, they usually rely on the availability and analysis of associated text descriptions. In this paper, we propose a hybrid learning framework to discover local semantic regions and generate their samples for training of local detectors with minimal human intervention. A multiscale segmentation-free framework is proposed to embed the soft presence of discovered semantic regions and local class patterns in an image independently for indexing and matching. Based on 2400 heterogeneous consumer images with 16 semantic queries, both similarity matching based on individual index and integrated similarity matching have outperformed a feature fusion approach by 26% and 37% in average precisions, respectively.

Application of Frame Semantics to Teaching Seeing and Hearing Vocabulary to Iranian EFL Learners
A term in one language rarely has an absolute synonymous meaning in the same language; besides, it rarely has an equivalent meaning in an L2. English synonyms of seeing and hearing are particularly grammatically and semantically different. Frame semantics is a good tool for discovering differences between synonymous words in L2 and differences between supposed L1 and L2 equivalents. Vocabulary ...

متن کاملMeaningfulness of Religious Language in the Light of Conceptual Metaphorical Use of Image Schema: A Cognitive Semantic Approach
According to modern religious studies, religions are rooted in certain metaphorical representations, so they are metaphorical in nature. This article aims to show, first, how conceptual metaphors employ image schemas to make our language meaningful, and then to assert that image-schematic structure of religious expressions, by which religious metaphors conceptualize abstract meanings, is the ba...
متن کاملDiscovering Recurrent Visual Semantics in Consumer Photographs
We present techniques to semi-automatically discover Recurrent Visual Semantics (RVS) -the repetitive appearance of visually similar elements such as objects and scenesin consumer photographs. First, we introduce the detection of "bracketing" (very similar photographs) using an edge-correlation metric, which outperforms color histogram. Then, we use color and novel composition features (based o...
